Summer Vacation '22 1.0 - Life is an Open Road

4th of July week we hit the road to visit one of our favorite places - Colorado!  We were all amped for a road trip and to some time in the Great Outdoors!
Our 1st stop was in Amarillo and the Big Texan Steakhouse - home of the free 72oz steak - all you have to do is eat it in < 1hr!  None of us were up for the task but we did enjoy a great atmosphere!

After lunch we were off to the Cadillac Ranch - since 1974 people have visited the ranch to paint 1 or more of the 10 buried Cadillacs

We later headed South to the Palo Duro Canyon, the 2nd largest Canyon in the US, for the Texas Outdoor Musical.  The Canyon was a beautiful surprise and the theater it contained was an amazing environment for a great show!

This stage shot is as close as we would get to a picture of the action as photos were "strictly prohibited".  The show has run for 56 years and tells the story of Farmer Calvin Armstrong and his dealings with Cattle Boss Colonel Henry and underling Dan Newberry in the late 1800s - it was a great show and excellent way to kick off the trip

One last shot at the rim of the Canyon and the following morning we were heading West - this is what roads in the Texas Panhandle look like (for miles & miles)
We arrived at the Cheyenne Mountain Resort with the aforementioned mountain in the background (view from our balcony)
Later in the week we were back on the road heading to Glenwood Springs and Western Colorado
Just West of Denver there was still snow on the peaks
The Glenwood Springs Canyon made for breathtaking views as we traveled along the water
