Puerto Vallarta Part 2: Excursions

As much as we enjoyed the beach at the resort we got ants in our pants and took in some local sights.  First up was a hike through the jungle...

Our guide Karla told us of Pancha - a local cow spirit that watches over jungle travelers that ask for safety (she is pointing at Pancha's leg bone!)
The hardhats came in handy on the rocky trek deep into the jungle
Great scenery as we slowly made our way up the path along the mountain stream

Dad & Taylor volunteered to join Karla and swim in the chilly water...
Dad scaled the slippery waterfall & lends a hand to Taylor while she does the same
Nice payoff as a 2nd beautiful 25ft waterfall was just behind us
We later took a guided tour through the downtown checking out "Our Lady of Guadalupe" church and met this interesting man who was a local celebrity...
...he is the young child between Richard Burton & Elizabeth Taylor taking communion back in the 1960s - American celebrities helped draw attention to the growing tourist location years ago and helped it evolve into a mainstream destination over the years
Views from downtown Puerto Vallarta

After the downtown walk, we traveled to a local suburb
Enjoying popsicles with Jordan while taking in the sights
We toured a Tortilla factory and tasted some local flavor
Our Tour guide, Victor explains all the different ways you can use a Tortilla - just seconds after this picture was taken, the Gatorade jug filled with Salsa fell from its perch spraying the back of our tour guide who shook it off well
The public beach was no comparison to the Hyatt Ziva
A random local dog patiently waiting outside a restaurant
Our next stop on the journey was a visit to a local cemetery (November 2nd is Day of the Dead)
The elaborate tombstones sprawled across the hillside
The final stop was a Tequila Tasting
Age 13 was the cutoff to participate?
They will probably appreciate it more in a few years
It was great to check out some local landmarks and get a feel for the culture
