After many Fall weekends of practice and a blitz of workouts during Thanksgiving vacation we were ecstatic that both girls made the Griffin 7th Grade Girls Basketball team! Thursday night games here we come!
Game 1 vs Staley
The 1st 5 minutes of this game was a mess of missed shots by Griffin and and a comedy of errors littered with turnovers from both teams. The Gators would eventually find some balance, start sinking shots, and build a lead. Jordan & Taylor looked sharp in the contest and scored a combined 6 points. Staley collapsed in the 2nd half and the Gators rolled 32-2.

Taylor looks confused during a game stoppage...
...but makes up for it when her and some teammates force a 10 second violation on defense
Game 2 vs Cobb
Over half the team was in COVID quarantine, but not J&T! Griffin was outnumbered but kept the game close in the 1st half. Jordan would score early on a jumper and Taylor would tie the game during the 2nd quarter. Cobb dominated the boards in the 2nd half and flexed a real home court advantage with a rowdy group of players in the stands pumping up the team. The Gators dropped to 1-1 just before the holidays

But would later make this 10 ft jumper

Taylor catches a cross-court pass and secures the ball after a rebound
Game 3 vs Pioneer
It was mid January before our next game. Griffin would return to full strength and bounce back against a "wild traveling" Pioneer team. Jordan & Taylor were shut out the 1st time this season, but played well on the defensive side of the ball. Griffin outmatched the Panthers in a 30-9 victory.
Game 4 vs Hunt
Our 1st home game in a month came late in January. The girls would get back on track with each scoring in the game. Griffin was faster to the ball but looked a bit rusty missing many 1st half shots. Hunt struggled to score and once the Gators shots started falling the team built a strong lead - eventually winning 30-11.

Game 5 vs Pearson
Griffin came out strong in the 1st half shutting out Pearson on their home floor and eventually building a 18-2 lead early in the 2nd half. The team would let up per their coaches request and begin over passing, eventually melting away much of their lead. Taylor would hit a key "buzzer-beater" basket to close the 3rd quarter and the team would hold off a late surge to win 24-18.
Jordan had several steals in the game which led to breakaways downcourt
This shot from Jordan would roll in and out of the hoop
Taylor had her best scoring game of the season hitting this 15 ft off balance jumper...
...and this buzzer beater from a similar location to close the quarter
Game 6 White vs Green
After their scheduled opponent went into quarantine, the Griffin coaches arranged a mixed squad scrimmage on a neutral court at Lawler Middle. Jordan (Green) & Taylor (White) landed on opposing sides of the court and were ready to face off. The White team jumped out to a 11-1 1st quarter lead. Green would close the gap in the 2nd quarter including Jordan banking in a 12 ft jumper. Taylor would fall victim to multiple double dribble and travel calls as the refs officiated a tight game. She would end on a high note when she battled down the court fending off multiple defenders eventually landing a jumper in the paint. White beats Green 21-11.
Battling for an inbound pass, Sisters and 2 of their best pals Makenna (White) & Leighton (Green) face off at mid-court

The final game of the season got wiped out after North Texas was hit with a historic winter storm, plunged into single digit temperatures and 3 waves of snowfall hit the area. We were thankful to get 5 league games (4-1). It was a great season and thumbs up to FISD and Griffin Middle for making it happen!
