Summer Vacation Part 1: Boston

Finally vacation had arrived!  We headed to the airport for an obnoxiously early flight for our 10 day Northeast getaway.  A patriot theme persisted throughout our travels starting in Boston:

Shortly after landing around Noon local time - we headed to Faneuil Hall for lunch followed by the harbor for a Whale Watch.  The good news is that we enjoyed what our Captain described as "unusually high" activity as we saw 3 whales and enjoyed a a baby Humpback that breached over a dozen times.  The bad news is that we paid the price for these views with high winds and cold temps during the 25 mile ride

Dad & Taylor take a selfie just before we disembarked
Views from outside the harbor
Big difference in weather from the harbor to out on the water
The baby Humpback put on a show

On Day 2 we headed to the New England Aquarium.  The center of the building showcased a giant Ocean Tank which housed several massive Sea Turtles.  We caught a few shows and were impressed with the attractions.

All smiles heading in & Jordan has a moment in the Aquarium
Seal show
The baby of the colony
Penguins & Turtles
Myrtle, a 500lb & ~100 year old Sea Turtle cruises through the Giant Ocean Tank - the staff estimates that under their care she could live past 200 years
This richly colored Eel was as unique as anything we saw
After grabbing sandwiches at Potbelly's we headed to Boston Common to take the Freedom Trail Tour - it was a 90 minute walk through downtown Boston highlighted by stories about the Boston Massacre, Tea Party, and significant Revolutionary contributors such as John Hancock, Sam Adams, and Paul Revere

We had an animated Tour Guide & the site of the Boson Massacre
The Meeting House where Colonists gathered just before the Boston Tea Party & Omni Parker House - our hotel during the trip, was stated to be the most Haunted building in the city - if you look closely you can see the silhouettes of a few potential apparitions by the front door
Granary Burying Ground - Paul Revere, John Hancock, and John Adams are all buried here
Paul Revere's Memorial, original headstone...
...and Monument in Little Italy / Robert Parrish Monument
Massachusetts State House
USS Constitution aka Old Ironside
A view from the Harbor Tour
We were a little too young for the ghost tour but we still stopped for a picture
The Harbor Tour Guide boasted of Mike's Pastry so we headed to Little Italy for Pizza, Meatballs & Cannoli's

Fenway Park Tour - Lots of signs to remind us how old the stadium is & how successful the team has been the past 15 years...

The stadium has the smallest visiting locker room in Major League Baseball
The famed Green Monster
Family selfie on the Monster...
...and a view from the $700 seats considered by some to be the best in the Majors
Gardens on the roof - Caryn was disappointed to hear they don't donate the food
Skyline view from the Pressbox - the park is the smallest in the Big League
On the way out of town we stopped at the Franklin Zoo just South of the City - The Gorilla exhibit was terrific & Lion posed like Simba for the cameras!
