October & November means Band Competitions! We were lucky to make it to a few of them including what has quickly become a highly anticipated (and enjoyed) annual trip to San Antonio!
Columbus Day weekend brought the North Texas Regional Championship. Wakleand would perform well winning their group and finishing 2nd overall. The 2pm performance time brought the challenge of mid-90s temperatures and a hot Field Turf surface
The band marches onto the field...
...The Color Guard follows
Taylor doing her thing...
Wakeland finished 1st in the Frisco ISD punching their ticket to the State Championships & a great excuse for us to get away for a few days to San Antonio!
Time to check out the sights - of course, we immediately headed to the Alamo
Getting a Selfie on "Selfie Bridge"
San Fernando Cathedral
Lunch at the Esquire Tavern - we learned the restaurant mysteriously opened minutes after Prohibition was lifted with a full inventory of alcohol - the patio had a great view of the San Antonio River and some unexpected entertainment...
...Mom gets an impromptu "fortune telling" when we conversed with some random guys (bonus -the future looks bright for us but the 2 ladies at the other table were not so fortunate!)
River tour - our 1st one at night!
Dinner at the oldest restaurant on the River Walk
Back to the San Fernando Cathedral for the world-famous hologram show - just before the show, in the wheels off moment of the year, Mom called out a random guy (and his accomplice) for "taking a dump" in nearby bushes
More Alamo
We took an awesome ghost walking tour, hearing amazing stories of specters & spirits all over the city - it was unfortunately cut short by a fast-moving incoming storm : (
Our great tour guide was well-schooled on local ghosts!
Oh yeah - we were there for the State Championships - we headed over to the Alamo Dome for 2 days of competition
Anticipation just seconds before Wakeland marches onto the field
There are ~250 schools in Group 5A...
36 were invited to San Antonio, 12 made the finals...
...and Wakeland finished 4th! Congrats on a great season!
