This past weekend brought with it 2 major milestones in the Kalmar house - The kickoff of the Spring Soccer Season & the Daddy Daughter Dance. The good news was that we lucked out with the Soccer schedule makers and scored an 8am game that would not conflict at all with the 4pm start of the dance. The bad news was that we faced our harshest playing conditions in our Soccer careers (one could say the playing conditions rivaled the ultimate bad weather game, West Morris Central vs. The Vailsburg Vikings, circa 1987 - but that would be completely false!) However, the 40s temps coupled with 20+ mph winds tested even the most dedicated parents. The Dolphins played hard and looked fantastic in their new uniforms but fell short of an opening day win. Jordan played one of the best games of her young career and was literally all over the field the entire game; due to team injuries she played in all 4 quarters. In the end both girls grabbed "assists" in the loss, took on the responsibilities for team Corner Kicks on their lines, and showed much heart in the tough conditions.

...and showing some fancy footwork going toe-to-toe against the Sunny-Bees physically imposing best player
Teammate Addison just beats Jordan to this loose ball in front of the goal
Taylor showed some tremendous "grit" in the game holding up under difficult playing conditions
After we got home and warmed up we found ourselves prepping for the big dance. Both girls & Dad showed great resilience and literally danced the afternoon away for 90 minutes with just 1 short break for some snacks. More than half the team was at the dance and we even bumped into some rival coaches on & off the dance floor. After dancing until we dropped to favorites like the "Hokey-Pokey, Chicken Dance, & Cha-Cha Slide we were off to eat at one of our favorite spots, La Hacienda Ranch, to enjoy dinner with Coach Emil & his daughter Grace. If only all Saturdays could be this good!
The girls were overwhelmed with all their gifts

..and then doubled-down by scoring some Twizzlers
Finally we arrived!
Taking in the sights & posing with characters
Jordan - doing "the Twist!"
It was great to see some of our teammates there - like Addison...
...and Savannah
Come on baby, do the "Loco-motion"
Of course, we made time for a snack and the "4-C's" - cheese, crackers, cantaloupe & cookies
Alas all good things must come to an end - all that's left to do is pick up the confetti
Great day - thanks girls!
